When to Go to France

France's low season is July and August. The government even stimulates people to go on vacation for this period. But cities are still crowded - tourists substitute locals who drift (mainly ashore).

In the low season some stores and restaurants close, though hotels are cheaper. You can also visit free cultural entertainments like park concerts and open-air movies in the Villette park.

The best time to visit France (Paris and Ile-de-France) is late spring (April - June) and early fall (September - October). Nature paints cities and brings a mild moderate weather with few tourists. Romantics should spend Xmas and New Year in Paris.

France is in north, south Europe and 3 climatic zones - oceanic, Mediterranean and continental. In winter country temperatures may drop sub zero with Atlantic coast gales. South France is much warmer even with sometimes cold winters. Xmas tourists should wear warm clothes. Snow may fall even by the south shore. Continental east France is always cooler with wider temperature differences - cold winters are followed by hot humid summers with sometimes long storms. Winter temperatures vary from about -10 to +10, summer ones from +18 to +30 C.
